December 16, 2006: This month's winner for the "Autograph Collection of the Month" award is Brendan Kaminsky (many of you may know him as BKPlatinum from Trader Retreat). Brendan is a longtime collector of Golden State Warrior point guard Baron Davis. Over the past few years Brendan has established a very impressive autograph collection of Baron Davis, a collection so impressive that it has earned him this month's award for Autograph Collection of the Month.
I recently had the chance to interview Brendan regarding his stellar collection. Here's what he had to say:
AI: What got you started on collecting Baron Davis and how long have you been collecting him?
Brendan: I began collecting Baron Davis after watching him in his rookie year on the Hornets. He was my favorite player on my favorite team. I instantly liked his style of play and officially began picking up stuff at the end of his rookie year.
AI: What was your first Baron Davis Autograph and how did you obtain it?
Brendan: My first Baron Davis autograph was the 99-00 Skybox Autographics Rookie Autograph. I still own it and obtained it via eBay.
AI: Which Baron autograph is your favorite and why?
Brendan: Although it may seem cliché, my favorite Baron Davis Autograph is probably also my best. It is the 05-06 SP Authentic Exquisite Endorsements Autograph #’d 1 of 1. When I first got it, I couldn’t stop looking at it, and I still am in love with the style of the card. It’s also very rare, and I’m thrilled to have it in my collection.
AI: How have you gone about obtaining your Baron Davis autographs (Ebay, Trading Forums, Collector Shows, etc...)?
Brendan: Over the years, I have obtained Baron Davis autographs through eBay, card shows, forums, and through friends. I am thankful for everyone who looks out for Baron Davis’ for me and appreciate the admiration.
AI: How many Davis autographs are in your collection and how many are currently on the market?
Brendan: I can’t tell you exactly how many are out there, but if I were to guess, I’d say a little over 200. I myself have a total of 55 different Baron Davis autographs, 5 of them being 1 of 1’s. With all of the overproduction nowadays, more and more autographs of him are coming out. It is interesting because he used to be a rare signer, but that in itself is rare nowadays.
I'd like to thank Brendan for participating in this interview and for sharing his amazing collection. Brendan also won a Tommy John autographed 8x10 as a prize for winning this month's Autograph Collection of the Month contest. Once again, congratulations Brendan and good luck in continuing to enhance your Baron Davis autograph collection in the future.
